Tribute to the Troops
by Avril Lavigne
General Membership Meeting - Monday Apr 26 7:00pm in MHS cafeteria
Congratulations to the Bantam 1 Team for finishing first place in the Bantam Red North Division and for winning the Championship after beating Andover 3-1 in the finals.
The MYHA 2009/2010 season wrapped up on Sunday April 11. When the dust settled it was the Squirt 3 team who stood tall, winning their division and bracket. Congratulations to the players, coaches, and parents for a great year and a championship finish!
There is still some off-ice business to deal with before the year is officially over:For more information contact Tanya Labelle at clerk@myha.com

It's not over yet, but the fat lady is warmed up and waiting in the wings!
The playoffs are this week and MYHA teams are at- or near the top of their divisions across the board. This should be a great week of hockey.

The 2009/2010 group photo is ready for viewing. A copy will be on display at the rink. You can also view and order copies at Portraitefx.com.
Enjoy a week of great weather and even better hockey!
"...and do they do anything there BESIDES play hockey?!"
This is a question asked of one of our coaches at the CanAm Challenge Cup tournament in Lake Placid this weekend. Skating on the same ice as the historic 1980 Miracle on Ice, the Squirt 1 and Squirt 2 teams won gold medals in their divisions, while the Peewee 1 team captured bronze medals in dramatic fashion.
Methuen players ranked at the top of all statistical categories; scoring, assists, wins, the works. Along the way we had shut-outs from goalies Kelan Mackey, Sean Bates and the combined efforts of Ryan Fehmel and Cam Walsh.
Special recognition for Devin Coonradt who won the CanAm Challenge Essay Contest and will enjoy a week of CanAm Camp this summer.
Congratulations to all the kids, coaches, and parents whose hard work all year long made this great weekend a success!
USA Hockey guidelines define player age divisions by birth year:A child may tryout with a higher age group only if they will be eligible to play in that group next season based on their birth year.

- Squirts: 2000 - 2001

Everyone currently active in the program is invited, including Learn-to-skate and Cross-Ice. We are scheduling the photo at 7:10pm to accomodate the younger skaters. If your child is coming just for the photo, all they need is their WHITE jersey, a helmet, and skates - it's ok to wear regular street clothes as long as they have their white jersey.
If your child is a Mite, please plan to stay a little extra longer to take part in the photo. If your child is a Peewee, Bantam, or Midget please plan to come early on Tuesday March 23 to take part in the photo at 7:10pm.
All skaters are asked to wear their WHITE jerseys for the photo! Coaches should wear their blue Methuen jackets.
A copy of the photo will be on display at the rink once it is developed. Arrangements will be made for anyone who may wish to buy copies. This is the first time we've ever done this - please help to make it a memorable occasion.

In an ideal world we would hold tryouts in August and start collecting tuition as soon as a skater was placed on a team. But in reality our ice rink is closed in the summmer, which is when our seasonal bills need to be paid. For this reason, MYHA holds tryouts in early April and places skaters on teams by the end of the month. This system allows us to collect tuition and pay bills before the season starts in September.
The exact tuition for next season is undetermined because we are still working with our major providers to finalize our costs. In general, the tuition is determined by calculating several key elements:Until the exact number is resolved, families can use the estimate of $1700 that was specified on the registration agreement.
- Cost of Valley League participation
- Cost of bi-weekly practice ice
- Cost of socks and two jerseys
- Cost of skills for skaters and goalies
- Cost of association administration
- Offset income from seasonal fundraiser or contributions
- Total amount of expenses divided by total number of skaters
50% of tuition (estimated $850) is due by Sept 1 2009.
If full payment is made by Dec 1 2009, a $300 discount will be awarded ($225 for buzzer team).
While this information may not make it easier to make a payment, it will hopefully make it easier to understand how and why our tuition policy is organized.
Tuition installments may be paid on account at any time over the summer by contacting the treasurer. For more information email clerk@myha.com or contact any board member.
Volunteering helps keep our organization going strong. There are several non-voting board positions open for this season:Positions run from May 2009 through April 2010.

The Bantam 2s finished with a 2-1 victory over a strong Peabody team, clinching the Bantam Red Division Championship.
Congratulations to all 5 teams for a strong showing in the Valley 07-08 Championships.
Strong showing by Methuen in Valley Playoffs
Five Methuen teams have made to their respective Division Finals, including our entire Mite Division! The Mite 3s lost a close game late in the 3rd period to # 2 seed Marblehead, 1-0. Most of the players on the team are playing organized hockey for the first time. The Mite 3 players, coaches and parents should be extremely proud of making to the finals!

We wish you the best of Luck on Championship Saturday!
Congratulations Methuen Bantam 2's for winning the Silver Medal at the CAN/AM Tournament in Lake Placid, NY.
The Bantam 2's traveled to Lake Placid where they won the Silver Medal, just missing the gold in a hard fought championship game losing 2-1. The team played awesome hockey giving up just 4 goals in 5 games due to the outstanding goal tending from Cam Conway and strong defense from Adam Neel, Brandon Blum, Erik Gillespie, and Joey Francis. Forwards Matt Gregg, Matt Bauchman, Jordan Blatti, Ryan Andrews, Mike Hovnanian, Kory Lubinger, Dustin Lubinger and Tony DeSimone provided the offense that resulted in 11 goals scored.
The team was awarded the "Fair Play Award" for being the least penalized team which is a tribute to the dedicated coaching staff lead by head coach Steve Costa, assistant coaches, Mike Hovnanian, Dan Finley and Steve Costa Jr. In addition, Erik Gillespie won the Essay Contest which awarded him a $1,000.00 scholarship and Kory Lubinger came in second place in the shootout competition.
The achievements awarded this weekend are the results of hard work, team effort and dedication. Lake Placid is an exciting place to play hockey and the Bantam 2 team represented Methuen very well. Congratulations to Coach Steve Costa and the entire Bantam 2 team.

The new Methuen Youth Hockey Board of Directors is pleased to welcome you to the 2007-2008 season. We look forward to continuing the proud tradition of Methuen Youth Hockey for another year.
A new year means new faces and fresh changes – and this letter is intended to make you aware of what is new for 2007-2008.
New Board Members
It is important that you know who the board members are and how to contact them with any questions or concerns.
The new board members are:
President Matt Halaby 508-740-8736 Vice President Paul Cioffi 978-794-0194 Secretary / Clerk Mike Foreman 978-257-0486 Treasurer Alice Armstrong 978-682-6950 Head of Coaches Joe Kaczynski 978-682-1042 Bantam Coordinator Jeff Regan 978-689-9660 PeeWee Coordinator Mark DeChirico 978-683-4229 Squirt Coordinator To Be Determined Mite Coordinator Ray Donovan 978-683-0395 Schedule Changes
For the 2007-2008 season, Methuen Youth Hockey teams will only be playing in the Valley League. There will be no Dual State involvement.
This change was voted by the membership last year and goes into affect this season.
We will be playing a 42-game Valley League schedule, with the majority of our games at Methuen High School, Lawrence Valley Forum, Haverhill Valley Forum, Cyclone Arena (plus a couple of other rinks local to Methuen). We are excited about this change. Less time spent traveling to rinks means kids should have more energy for games - this may also give some teams time to play in tournaments.
