Tryout FAQ

MYHA TRYOUT FAQs

  1. Are any preferences given to 2nd year players trying to make a team?
    1. No, all skaters are evaluated against their peers within their age without any designation between first or second year players
  2. Can a first year player make a top team?
    1. Yes, placements are based on each player’s ability
  3. Can players be moved down from one year to the next?
    1. Yes, team placement is NOT guaranteed from one season to the next
  4. What happens if a player cannot attend tryouts?
    1. Any player who does not attend tryouts is still eligible to join MYHA provided a roster spot is available.  The player is automatically placed on the lowest team in their age group.
  5. Can a player be moved after the initial team placement?
    1. Yes, coaches evaluate players in practices and parity games and a player can be moved to a higher team if his / her ability warrants such a move
  6. Can a player decline placement and change his / her mind?
    1. Yes, but the original roster spot is not guaranteed, and placement will be determined based on availability
  7. How are siblings handled?
    1. Skaters are placed on teams based on individual skill level.  If siblings are placed on different teams, parents have the option of requesting the siblings be placed on the same team, however placement will always be based on the lower placed child.
  8. When will team placement notifications be received?
    1. Placement letters will be delivered via email or regular mail on approximately April 15th
  1. What is the cost for tryouts and the tuition payment schedule?
    1. A non-fundable registration fee of $100.00 is due and payable upon registration for skater tryouts for Squirt – Midget levels (no registration fee for Mites or dedicated goalies).  In order for a skater to be eligible for on-ice evaluation, the registration fee MUST be paid in advance of the tryouts, otherwise the right to participate is forfeited.  Once placement is accepted, the registration fee is applied against the annual tuition cost.
    2. Additional tuition payments are due based on the following schedule:
      1. Mite Travel, Squirts, Peewees & Bantams – one-third each on May 1, July 1 & September 15
      2. Mite Development, Midget & Goalies – one-half each on May 1 & July 1
    3. A late fee of 5% will be assessed on any payments outstanding beyond the due dates.
    4. Full payment MUST be made by September 15th in order for a player to remain active on the team roster, participate in tournaments and participate in playoff games (unless agreed-upon arrangements are made with the MYHA Board of Directors / Treasurer)

Elections

Elections have been rescheduled to Tuesday March 26th 6-8 PM.

This year’s Board elections will have all 8 membership-elected positions open. The president, vice president, treasurer and clerk positions are two-year terms. The bantam coordinator, peewee coordinator, squirt coordinator and mite coordinator positions are one-year terms.

If you are interested in running for a position, please contact one of the following people on the election committee below. We need MYHA's members to be involved and help with the administration of the program going forward. We are fortunate to have a program for our children, but membership involvement is the key to its long-term success. Thanks in advance for your consideration in becoming more involved for all our kids.

ELECTION COMMITTEE MEMBERS:

Erin Marsh ( )

George Drew ( )

Joe Squatrito ( )

Mackenzie Rome ( )

If you have any questions about what is involved in being a member of the MYHA Board of Directors, please feel free to contact any current board member and we will be glad to try and help answer your questions.
